BUCKINGHAM PALACE: The Queen held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

Her Majesty held a Council at 12.30 p.m..

There were present: the Baroness Royall of Blaisdon (Lord President of the Council), the Rt. Hon. John Hutton MP, the Rt. Hon. James Purnell MP (Secretary of State for Work and Pensions) and the Rt. Hon. Edward Miliband MP.

The Rt. Hon. John Hutton MP took the Oath of Office as Secretary of State for Defence, kissed hands upon appointment and received the Seals of Office.

The Rt. Hon. Edward Miliband MP made affirmation as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, kissed hands upon appointment and received the Seals of Office.

Miss Judith Simpson was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Baroness Royall of Blaisdon had an audience of The Queen before the Council.

Major General Michael Jeffery (formerly Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia) and Mrs. Jeffery were invited to Luncheon with The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of Her Majesty this afternoon.

The Duke of Edinburgh, President Emeritus, World Wide Fund for Nature - International, this morning received Mr. Edward Smith (Chairman, World Wide Fund for Nature - United Kingdom) and Mr. David Nussbaum (Chief Executive).

His Royal Highness, Patron, Interact Worldwide, received Mr. Bruno Oudmayer (Chief Executive) and Miss Elizabeth Rose (Development Manager).

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, received Professor Sir Andrew Haines (Director).

His Royal Highness, Patron, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, this evening held a Dinner at Buckingham Palace for participants of the London to Florence Rally.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE: The Duke of York, Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, today visited Cornwall and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant (the Lady Mary Holborow).

His Royal Highness this morning visited Pendennis Shipyard Limited, the Docks, Falmouth.

The Duke of York this afternoon attended a briefing on renewable energy in the South West and a Luncheon with representatives of the Wavehub Project at Tremough Campus, Combined Universities in Cornwall, Penryn.

His Royal Highness later visited Watson-Marlow Bredel Pumps Limited, Falmouth.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE: The Earl of Wessex this morning opened the Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College, Newbold Road, Rugby, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Warwickshire (Mr. Martin Dunne).

His Royal Highness, Trustee, this afternoon attended The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Conference at Moor Hall Hotel, Sutton Coldfield, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands (Mr. Paul Sabapathy).

The Earl of Wessex afterwards opened the newly renovated Science Schools at Rugby School, Rugby.

His Royal Highness later opened the new premises of Bernhard Court, Bernhard and Company Limited, Bilton Road, Rugby.

The Countess of Wessex, Patron, this morning attended the Two Moors Festival, St. Andrew's Church, Ashburton, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Devon (Mr. Eric Dancer).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon opened Brock House Children's Centre, Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset (Lady Gass).

The Countess of Wessex later opened the new Frome Community Hospital, Frome, Somerset.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE: The Princess Royal, President, Riding for the Disabled Association, this morning opened the new Mount Group Livery Centre at Somerby Liveries, Oakham Road, Somerby, and was received by Her Majety's Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire (Jennifer, Lady Gretton).

Her Royal Highness, President, Save the Children UK, this afternoon attended a Soroptimists of Leicester Luncheon at the Walkers Stadium, Filbert Way, Leicester.

The Princess Royal, President, Victim Support, later visited the offices of Victim Support Leicestershire and Rutland Plus at Alliance House, 6 Bishop Street, Leicester.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, British Quality Foundation, this evening attended the UK Excellence Awards Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London W1.

KENSINGTON PALACE: The Duke of Gloucester, Patron, St. George's Society of New York, this afternoon attended the Advisory Council Meeting and Reception at M and C Saatchi, 36 Golden Square, London W1.

THATCHED HOUSE LODGE RICHMOND PARK: Princess Alexandra, President, Queen Alexandra's House Association, this evening attended a Gala Evening at Imperial College, Exhibition Road, London SW7.
